Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado soloed to victory in the Superprestige Gullegem. She took off in the third lap and separated herself from the group to take her fourth win of the season.
Though it was not easy. "But in the first half of the race, I had to ride on," Alvarado said in the post-race interview. It was Zoe Backstedt who was leading, but the sandbox proved to be the turning point. "The gap was ten, 15 seconds, but with a small mistake, that lead is gone in no time," Alvarado explained.

By the final lap, she enjoyed a gap of over 30 seconds. "When I saw it was above 20 seconds, I was able to temporise. The last two laps I was a bit more at ease."
She currently leads in overall classification though Inge van der Heijden is just behind her. "Of course, but the gap with the number two is now four points. And it's on places, not on time. So that's already another four places she has to make up."

She is very much satisfied with the victory. "It always does a lot of good to win, no matter who is at the start. You have to do it yourself anyway. It's very nice that it worked out today," concluded Alvarado.
