Biniam Girmay emerged victorious from a spectacular tenth stage at the Giro d'Italia, in what has proved to be an immensely popular win for fans all round. However, the celebrations ended with a trip to the hospital, after the 21-year old got hit by a champagne cork when on the podium after his win.

UPDATE: Girmay has left the a hospital in Jesi at 20:20CET with a bandage around his injured eye. He has travelled back to the team hotel where he will recover throughout the night. IntermarchĂŠ - Wanty - Gobert MatĂŠriaux will be making a decision on his continuation in the morning.
