Tom Pidcock: " I’m disappointed, it would have been nice to win. It’s tricky but at least we tried"

Tom Pidcock misses out on victory in Tour of Britain stage four after Gonzalo Serrano threw his bike at the last moment and crossed the finish line first.

He is understandably upset with the outcome, “Of course I’m disappointed, it would have been nice to win today. We tried to take the race on and do our best to make a difference today. It’s difficult, though when every other team looks at us,” said Pidcock.

The situation does not help when you are defeated on your home ground and only adds to pain and frustration. “We’re the home team, and we’re maybe the strongest here although there’s other strong teams here as well. It’s tricky but at least we tried,” said Pidcock.

Ineos Grenadiers has not yet secured any victory, their best result being Omar Fraile’s silver in the opening stage. “We’ve tried every day now, but the course isn’t hard enough. On another stage, we tried but were facing a headwind and it just wasn’t possible to do anything. Everyone just waits for us to do something but six guys can’t make a race of course,” explained Pidcock.

At the end of the day, he had to accept what he got. “At least we managed to do something today. It wasn’t the result we wanted, but there are four more days of the course. We’ll keep trying,” concluded Pidcock. He currently holds the second position in GC, just 7 seconds behind overall leader Gonzalo Serrano.
