"They have done a fantastic job" - Fabio Jakobsen praises his teammates on Baloise Belgium Tour stage win

Fabio Jakobsen won the second stage of Baloise Belgium Tour quite convincingly. Mostly because his nearest competitors - Caleb Ewan and Jasper Philipsen - both crashed earlier on the day and never came made it back to the front of the race.

"It was extremely hectic," Jakobsen opens the quick post-race interview. "There was a big crash. I don't know about those guys, but hopefully they'll be okay," he refers to the crash that took Philipsen and Ewan out of the contention for the stage win.

"They have done a fantastic job. Of course I still have to ride a good sprint, but it makes it all a lot easier," the Dutch sprinter praises his teammates who delivered him in a perfect position for the sprint. "Especially in stages like this, a team and positioning are very important."

Jakobsen reveals that he was never afraid about losing the sprint to quickly approach Mathieu van der Poel. "I knew I was safe. With such a good lead-out I know that if I get to 200 meters from the line and can keep my pace, I'll be fine. I deliberately turned on a little earlier, to prevent someone from coming over and closing in on me. I looked back once and knew it was enough."
