Israel - Premier Tech have so far had a very complicated season so far, however with the Tour de France not far, their climbers look on form as Jakob Fuglsang and David Gaudu rode a one-two win at the Mercan'Tour Classic Alpes-Maritimes.
The early breakaway went off early in the more gentle start to the race with Alessandro Verre (Arkรฉa Samsic), Valentin Ferron (TotalEnergies), Theo Delacroix (Intermarchรฉ - Wanty - Gobert Matรฉriaux, Larry Warbasse (AG2R Citroรซn Team) and Sebastian Schรถnberger (B&B Hotels-KTM). The group didn't have enough firepower to go on and contest the win, as Groupama - FDJ quickly turned up the pace as soon as the race hit the ascent of the Col de Couillole.

Despite the numerical advantage, the French team commited to pacing up the ascents, creating a group of around 15 riders that managed to resist the first acceleration. The race calmed down after the summit though, as the group went into the final ascent together.
There, Groupama kept setting the pace until seven kilometers to go when Jakob Fuglsang made a move in the front group. He tried more than once and eventually the sense of opportunity saw him drop David Gaudu. The Frenchman tried to chase but to no success, eventually finishing third as Michael Woods followed his wheel and then outsprinted the Frenchman.
