Peter Sagan has just concluded his final Tour de France and was happy to reach Paris after a brutal edition. The former rockstar of cycling senses it's the time to leave road cycling, although his future as a pro is uncertain and depends largely on how he performs on the Mountain Bike next year.
โ€œThe glory I think will stay, Iโ€™ve got nothing to prove any more. What I did is done and thatโ€™s good," Sagan told CyclingWeekly. "Itโ€™s also a very nice period of my life โ€“ all the things I did in road cycling. But everyone has to finish at some point. Iโ€™ve done my job. Now I want to concentrate on myself and my family, and also to have some fun in mountain biking.โ€

Sagan has had a difficult race and season overall without too many results to show for. He holds one more year of contract with TotalEnergies, but will leave road cycling at the end of 2023. A decision which he does not regret, instead is sure that it is the right time. He will dedicate himself briefly to Mountain Biking and see where he stands, and then his career's path will depend on that.

โ€œWhere I started I would like to finish. I have one more year of mountain biking and, I still donโ€™t know, if I do well, maybe I can continue mountain biking. If not, Iโ€™ll stop after one year. Thereโ€™s a lot of question marks," he concluded.
